Have you been driving yourself crazy working from home with kids running around? It’s not easy, I know! That’s why I’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to help you navigate working from home with kids.
First things first, you need to create a schedule for your kids. This will help them know what’s coming up next and when. Make sure to include snack times, lunch breaks, and some playtime too. You can also plan some specific activities for them to do during the day, like drawing or playing outside.
If your kids are old enough to work on their own, try setting up a workspace for them. Give them all the supplies they need and encourage them to focus on their tasks. This will help them develop their independence and take some of the pressure off you.
Encouraging independent play is another great way to keep your kids entertained while you work. Give them some toys or games they can play with on their own, like puzzles or board games. You can also set up a play area in a safe part of your home where they can explore and have fun without your supervision.
Now I know your first instinct is to sit them in front of that TV so they don’t bother you (mine definitely is) but, it’s important to be mindful of screen time. Limit how much time your kids can spend on screens and make sure they are watching age-appropriate content. You can also use educational apps or games to make screen time more productive.
Involving your kids in household chores is not only going to help get some of that work around the house that you’ve probably been ignoring done, but it also teaches them responsibility and life skills. Assign them age-appropriate tasks like folding laundry or sweeping the floor. It’ll make them feel like they’re contributing to the family and help you get things done too.
Providing creative outlets is another way to keep your kids engaged and entertained. Give them art supplies or musical instruments and encourage them to express themselves. This will help them develop their creativity and keep them occupied for longer periods.
Remember to take breaks throughout the day to spend time with your kids. Play a game, read a book or just chat with them. It’ll make them feel loved and less likely to act out for attention.
Now if all fails and you’re really struggling to keep your kids entertained while you work, consider hiring help. A babysitter, nanny, or tutor can make all the difference. It’s okay to admit you need some extra support to get through the day.
Finally, don’t forget to be flexible! You know what they say, “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans”. Don’t stress yourself out trying to make everything perfect. You’re doing your best, and that’s all that matters.
P.S Remember to take care of yourself too. It’s not easy juggling work and parenting, but you’ve got this girl!
